    Getting into more detail would be amazing for this! I know there are only like 4 or 5 Sega CD 32x games released, but it's still fascinating to me, how they used the whole Tower of Power! Also, I would LOVE it, if you could talk about how it would theoretically work, if a Sega CD 32x game ever used both a Cartridge for the main gameplay (because of the better RAM and stuff) and CDs for things like Cutscenes/FMVs, soundtrack or other features. Like, would that be possible and if so, how would the Tower react to that and play it back? Thanks so much for these informative videos!

    What AC power configuration is better for my tower of power setup? I have a sega genisis model 2, sega CD side load and a 32x. I recently ran into an AC power adapter issue for my model 2 and am getting a replacement. one of the caps inside the AC adapter popped and was still on. Wife noticed the smell before I did. I also noticed that my 32x was very hot. Because I am uncertain of why the failure occurred I figured I'd ask the following question. The Model 2 does not require that a power cable be run to the 32x. So which configuration is healthier for my consoles. Running 3 AC adapters Gen/CD & 32x or running 2 cables Gen/CD and letting the 32x draw power from Gen model 2? I have seen recommendations for both and am having a hard time sorting the BS versus fact. I was just running the 2 cables when the issue occurred. Came here to see if this was due to just using 2 AC adapters or if it was just a burned out AC adapter due to age. If it helps I am also using an everdrive X5 most of the time when not playing official games. Brief examples of what I have read: - Running all 3 is better because it puts less strain on the Gen model 2 - Running 2 is better because otherwise you are putting to much AC current to the 32x Since I have no idea if sega did extensive testing I am curious which is better for the system overall. If I should follow the old 32x manual and continue with the 2 cable config or ignore and use 3.

    32x, GBA 3DO ports are now a thing come to reality. But... What about a possible Atari Jaguar/AJCD port, or maybe Amiga CD32? If the GBA and 32x, which both doesn't have any 3d hardware implementation (the do 3d by software rendering and taking resources by CPU and similar), an Amiga CD32 or Jag versions can be a thing?

    If you don't mind reworking each shot manually, you can break these up into Background and Foreground layers, where the background consists of large areas that don't move relative to each other (or that can be compressed/expanded through vertical scaling). You can then use the Foreground layer to draw just the main target of the shot (space ship, person). Finally, software compares that compressed shot to the original and adds a few tiles (moving items left over in VRAM from previous frames) to give a pretty good replication. Why this would work on the Sega CD? Because the whole system has close to 1MB of total system RAM for cached graphics and sound. Since the CD-ROM can just move the best 150KB of new tiles per second, software could be developed that would prioritize tiles based on need, reuse, etc. It would take 6-7 seconds to preload data from the CD (mostly backgrounds and explosions/VFX that will exceed the available bandwidth), then stream the data over using the 12.5MHz sub-CPU to decompress audio and video.

    I am too late for the party, but I would to ask two questions. After installing all the software (SGDK, 7-zip, Java JRE, visual studio) and downloading the VS code SGDK template. I run the test, which was successful by the way. VS gives 2 problems: 1- #include errors detected. Please update your includePath. Squiggles are disabled for this translation unit 2- cannot open source file \"libres.h\" (dependency of \"genesis.h\")" Is there a video on how to fix this? Thank you =)

      At the time, a number of people suggested just making the $99 Virtua Racing cartridge a Lock On cart, meaning that you could either plug $50 game cartridges into the Virtua Racing cart, or buy $40 Sega CD+SVP games. Since there were already six games finished for the SVP (including Daytona USA, Star Wars Arcade, and Virtua Fighter--a franchise that would gross over $8 billion for SEGA). Even if not done as a LockOn, if CD games could access Virtua Racing the game, they could use its 2MB of game ROM assets, 3MB of graphics libraries, 128KB of RAM, and the 20,000 flat shaded or 3,000 textured polygons per second. That is on top of the 3,000 textured polygons per second that the Sega CD+Genie could render. That combo would all be using hardware already out by March 14, 1994.

    And this is why the PCEngine CD was faster at using the Ram expansions, it was very fast (faster than the Sega Mega CD) spooling data from the CD, plus that RAM in the system/arcade card can be used as video RAM while theres no way around to the SegaCD/Megadrive 256kb wram, a RAM cart wouldn't help either, ....64kb of video ram....terrible system, very bad design.

    If the Sega CD had displayed many more colors in the games it would have been successful and would have compensated for the high price at the time (1991-'93). Visually, identical to the "conventional" Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.

      That is incorrect the game runs at 320x224.

    I see. So it sends some of the signals from the Sega CD through the 32X module and over to the genesis. That's how the CD 32X discs functioned.

    If he uses the Sega CD with this, there is a good chance to boost performance. I know the Doom Ressurection game for 32X uses the Sega CD and it gets a performance boost when doing that. Also it might be possible to get the game to run through the Sega CD then you would be able to store this in CD format

      The performance boost is a result of it shifting the sound to the Sega CD. Not 100% wrong. The other bit isn't feasible see FAQ.

    This is amazing work but regarding the size of the game, why can't the dev make it a 32x CD title? That should be plenty big enough for full textures, full game, full audio and full FMVs? I get that the idea of running a game like this off of the Genesis + 32x is really awesome, but a 32x + Sega CD version should be just as viable, shouldn't it?

    This looks extremely impressive and is the most impressive game I've seen running at 32x. However, I still don't think that more games like this would save the 32x, people completely forget that 3D games weigh a lot more than 2D games, the Nintendo 64 suffered a lot from space limitations with the 64 MB cartridge, like the 32x with 10 MB cartridges would they have any chance?, not to mention that it was a very expensive, clunky and difficult to market add-on. The 32x never had a chance of success, we never saw its hardware potential at the time, but even if we had seen it it wouldn't have saved the 32x.

    Awesome. The cartridge space is really a challenge for such a game. Probally the number textures must be reduce/recicled/reutilized in several parts and stages, using palette swap method. Even so, The game whould be fragmented in Chapters (one chapter in one cartridge). Also, make it a 23X + Sega CD game whould be a possibilitty too store all the original textures on one CD, but that will reduce the number of real hardware players. Thanks for the news.

    Sega should produce a system and just call it the Sega. Which plays all old Sega cartridge games (including Game Gear), Sega/Mega CD, Saturn and Dreamcast. All in one console. I know there are other options.

      Almost everything before 1997 (Gran Turismo, etc) could work on the $199 Neptune CD. Given a year or so, SEGA and its third party devs could've pushed that machine to its limits.
